Sometimes kids get tired of practicing piano. That’s understandable. They need breaks, just as adults do. However, if the lack of practice continues, sometimes parents need to step in and apply some positive discipline.
For example:
Parents can explain that practicing is non-negotiable. . . like doing math homework or eating vegetables or doing chores. Part of everyday required behavior.
Parents can insist on regular practice times. This can be tricky to accomplish, but adults and kids can work out a schedule that’s reasonable and doable.
Parents can follow through by signing practice records and proving that they’re serious about insisting on the commitment. Students will practice more when they know their records will be checked.
Parents can also help in other ways (to be continued).
